Camryn Quirk
Bachelor of Science in Education
Camryn Quirk came to Delaware Tech to pursue her two passions – becoming a teacher and playing softball.
"I have always had a drive to become a teacher," Quirk said. "Seeing how much of an impact some of my teachers had on me made it easy for me to know what I wanted to do in the future.
"Also, babysitting for a number of years made my love of helping kids so much more meaningful to me."
Quirk has found success in both areas she is pursuing. She has maintained a 3.5 GPA and is part of the inaugural class of students in the College's Bachelor of Science in Education program, and was a member of the two-time region and district champion softball team. Those two region and district championships qualified the team to play in the national tournament in Alabama both years.
Being a member of the softball team has helped Quirk adjust to college life. She graduated from Newark Charter School and moved to Sussex County to be closer to the Georgetown campus, where the softball program is based. That meant she was living on her own right away, which made for an added adjustment while attending college classes and going to softball practice.
"My best advice for all students is to join as many clubs as you can," Quirk said. "It is a great experience and a great way to network for future jobs or people to assist with recommendations.
"Another important piece of advice is the school's library is your best friend. It is a great place to receive help, meet up with classmates for schoolwork, and have alone time to do homework without distractions."
During her time at Delaware Tech, Quirk said she has stopped procrastinating and has started to ask more questions, both of which have helped her stay on top of her schoolwork. She is eager to put her degree to use, as she would like to become a special education teacher in the future. She eventually would like to become a school principal.
